The Carr fig is located at the Carr Powerhouse just outside of Whiskeytown Lake. The tree sustained some damage from the devastating Carr fire, but made it through relatively intact. It had the fortune of being close to water and low in the valley surrounded by a large asphalt parking area, which likely aided in its survival.
Carr has a smooth, thin skin, and can bear either honey colored or red interior depending on caprification. Very similar to a mission fig in flavor, though upon caprification we find it to have a red wine type flavor finish.
The origins of this tree are really unknown, and due to its location, we would not claim that it is or isnt a seedling, Just our general opinion.
All cuttings are 6 inches or longer, with 3 or more nodes. All cuttings will be freshly sealed at time of shipping. This was a 2020 find, and for the sake of transparency, we cannot yet confirm if it is common. Cuttings have been sent out of the area for growing and confirmation.
